Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs v- twin 20 HP I/C Intek, john deere l120, blown engine

Question
I got a john Deere l120 from someone with a blown engine so i got a used replacement. well it runs fine at idle but with the PTO turned on it bogs down. i know it has something to do with the Governor but I'm not sure what. i did have to adjust the Governor to even get it to idle right because the engine was just running at full throttle. I'm just hoping that the Governor isn't broke in the engine.

Answer
Question , is the spring, and linkage rod for the governor in the correct location? If it is, and the governor is adjusted correctly the governor inside the engine could very well be broken. Your right the governor must be working correctly to compensate for the load caused by the PTO being engaged. Go to the Briggs website to look in a manual which will explain in detail the correct way in which to adjust the governor for your model engine....Tom
