Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MURRAY 40 riding mower BLADE TORQUE, torque chart, correct torque

Question
Hello john
Thanks to you last year this riding mower is up and running. It's a MURRAY 40 inch cut with 13HP. Model # 40541x99C.
What is the correct torque in FOOT pounds on each blade? I made them as tight as I could but I read somewhere its only 30 pounds? I put mine on at least over 100/ let me know ..thanks

Answer
Hello GH:

LOL. The Torque on Any Bolt of a Mower will Depend on the OEM and the Specifications of that Mower. In Each Series of Mowers, there are Slight Changes Made. They May Change a Blade Adapter and with the New Design comes a New Torque Specification. I Usually Just Use the Torque Chart for the Size Bolt/Nut. The Site Addy for this Chart is; http://www.morbark.com/Service/belttorque.pdf . Your Main Worry with Over Torquring is it Weakens the Bolt by Stretching it. If you have the Double Star Design Blade Adapter, then 30 Foot Pounds is Suggested by the OEM. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
