Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): removing madrel, spindle nut, mower deck

Question
I have a lawn mower 917.255581 and i'm tring to get the mandrel off the mower deck. i tried using vise grips on the nut on top and hold the blade and try to get the nut off but it's not working. can you tell me how to get it off? i need to replace the housing or the whole thing as 2 of the three mounting thing broke off.

Answer
Hello Jesse:

Usually if the Blade will Hold the Shaft; you Use an Impact Wrench to Remove the Spindle Nut. The Blade can be Blocked so it Holds the Shaft by Using a 2X6 Board. Once you have the Shaft Secure, then a Large Pipe Wrench can Also be Used to Remove the Spindle Nut. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
