Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 4 HP Tecumseh Engine - Lawnmower, flange gasket, seal leaks

Question
Good evening,
Just replaced the flange gasket, governor gear and bottom seal on mower engine.  All is somewhat well in that I got it back together and it runs..no leaks at the flange gasket.  However the bottom shaft seal leaks just a little.  I greased the shaft and seal when installing and used a pvc pipe to tap it in..the recess spot is deeper than the seal, so at first I tapped it in just below level and it leaked a tad more than where I have it seated now..I ended up seating it to its max depth so it is about 1/8 inch below flush.  Not sure if that was the right thing to do.  Seems like when I took it all apart, it was closer to being flush.  If it's not leaking too bad, I'll leave it like it is until I'm able to get another seal and try again..will it hurt that I seated it to its max?  Thanks,  Darren.

Answer
Hello Darren:

Depending on the Engine Model, you May have the Oil Port for the Crankshaft Blocked. Some Models have a Small Oil Port that is Just Behind the Seal in the Seal Recess. If this Engine Does Not have this Oil Port in the Seal Recess, then you will Not Do Damage to the Engine. If there is an Oil Port, then the Crankshaft will Seize from No Lubrication to the Lower Section of the Crankshaft. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
