Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Onan p220g ignition, key switch, exact model

Question
I have a toro garden tractor with an onan engine I have replaced the coil, module, spark plugs and trigger ring. with the plugs out and hooked up on a well grounded surface I am checking for spark. It will not spark while I'm trying to start it But it will spark as soon as I let go of the key on the ignition switch. Any ideas???

It sounds like the key switch or the trigger ring is on upside down.  Toro has lots of manuals online you should check their web site.  Be sure to use exact model and serial number information.  There are no Onan engine dealers Toro supports this engine themselves.
