Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mower Trouble shooting, craftsman riding mower, blade tip

Question
I have a Craftsman riding mower with a rear grass catcher. It will not throw the grass up the shoot and into the rear container. It just clogs up the shoot continually. What could be causing this problem?

Answer
Is this the first time you used the catcher?  If so I suspect the boot on the deck is installed incorrectly.  The other thing is that the air going in the catcher with the grass has to get out.  Is the vent screen plugged or are you using plastic bags in the bags?  Most of the time you cannot use the plastic bags because of this.  The other things are blade tip speed and bagging blades.  Blades should be available from Sears.  Blade tip information differs with all manufacturers.  What ever the rpm for the engine is be sure it is running at that speed.  Usually 3000 to 3600 RPM's top no load speed.  When the blades are engaged the RPM's will droop but should return.  If not there could be another issue.  Also be sure you are going slow enough to allow the nagger to bag the grass.  The taller and thicker the slower you have to go.  Remember the deck has to be able to process the grass as fast as you are wanting to go.
