Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Riding lawnmower has no steering, riding lawnmower, bolens parts

I have a Bolen 42inch riding lawnmower that wont steer, the steering wheel will turn but nothing happens. I checked and i see where the small spindle is worn. (sorry not sure what you call it. there is a small spindle that mates with a large spindle. the small spindle is worn and needs to be replaced. the only way i see to remove it is take the whole steering rod out of the mower. I look at the bottom and it looks like it is being held by a large screw. I cannot turn that screw, i've tried anything....Can you help?

Do you have a parts drawing for the tractor? It will show you haw it goes together.  I would start by pressure washing the tractor and removing the front axle.  Work your way to the steering gears.  Before you do this do you know where you are getting the new parts?  Bolens parts can be hard to come by.  Good luck and I hope this helps.
