Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): new commercial walkbehind squeaks, snapper mower, pep boys

Question
Hi There, I recently purchased a 48 inch walk behind snapper mower.  When I picked it up, the gentlemen informed me that the belts on the hand controls would squeak until they stretched a bit. I noticed the first time I used it that it really squeaked. I was wondering how long this would last, or if I should try to get some form of belt dressing to help eliminate the squeaking. My brother informed me he has used some graphite spray dressing that he purchased at an auto store. In your opinion, should I simply wait for the belts to naturally stretch, or could I hasten the process by picking up some form of belt dressing at a pep boys or auto shop? Thanks very much for your time.  DL  Rochester, New York

Answer
Hello Dan:

For Belt Chirping/Squeaking I Usually use the Graphite Spray that your Brother has Used for this Problem. It Does Not Hurt the Belt or the Pulleys and Prevents Premature Belt Wear. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
