Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ryobi (Craftsman) tractor w Kohler engine, w kohler, kohler engine

Question
Greetings John, Problem with kill switch activated by brake pedal (i think)   Engine starts with pedal in then idles with brake pedal in released position.  so far so good. Put the engine under load and it misses, cuts out until i re-apply the brake pedal.  I've tried this a number of times and the correlation is evident.  Don't get why switch would have any effect once past start cycle.  Should i look beyond that?  Thanks Henry Crigler Santa Rosa CA

Answer
Hello Henry:

From your Description it Sounds like a Carburetor or Coil/Magneto Problem. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine or the Mower Model Numbers, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Engine Model Numbers May be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug.  However, on certain overhead valve powered generators, the equipment manufacturer installs a decorative chrome rocker cover OVER the Briggs cover. If your engine has a decorative cover, it may be necessary to remove it in order to locate the Model, Type, and Code. You can Also Use this Site Addy; http://www.briggsandstratton.com/maint_repair/BS_modeltypecode.pdf for Assistance in Locating the Model, Type and Code Numbers of the Engine. The Mower Model Numbers are Usually Under the Seat on a Sticker on the Body.  Thanks.
