Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Intermittent spark, JD Coil and Igniter

Question
I have a FB460V-BS00 Kawasaki engine in a John Deere 165 Hydro. With a spark tester between spark plug and plug wire, I get a very weak spark with an occasional single bright spark. However, it will not start. Is there any way to static check the coil and trigger(igniter)with a ohm meter. Any info or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanking you in advance, Richard Brinegar.

Answer
Hello Richard:

The Coils that Use a Separate Igniter have to be Tested with a Coil and Igniter Tester. Usually your JD Dealer will Test these for Little to No Charge. The Most Common Part to be Replaced will be the Igniter. 999 Out of 1000 Times the Igniter is the Cause of the Problem you Described. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers (165) and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
