Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh engine I.D., post hole digger, post hole diggers

Question
Hi John, I bought a Hydra-Drill from Deep Rock Drilling back about 1979 or so and it's been laying around for several years. I don't have the literature on it and the only numbers I could find were on a tag which were:670-88A and 9198 0444. It's a small one cyl. Tecumseh. The number on the carberator is 668 9F18. Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks John. Frank.

Answer
Hello Frank:

I am Not Sure of what the Engine Model Numbers are, However I do Know that the Post Hole Diggers that are Sold Today with the Tecumseh Engines have the Same Engine as the Hydra-Drill. I have the Same Unit and Use it to Drill Shallow Water Wells. The Engine Threw a Rod a Few Years Ago and I had to Replace the Engine. I went to my Local Tool Rental Company and Asked to Look at their Post hole Digger. I then Asked if I could Copy the Engine Information Off the Digger and Used this Information to Purchase a New Engine. The New Engine Bolted Right Up with No Modifications at All and the Well Drill Works like New. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
