Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower brake cable removal, Brake/Stop Cable, Remove/Replace

Question
QUESTION: RE: Lawnboy 10202 Silver Series. S.N. 3900001.

Finally got the blade, blade adapter, and self-propell belt pulley off. Now I'd like to know how to remove the brake cable from where it attches to the engine. By brake cable I mean the cable connected to the handle that makes the engine stopped if released. I guess it's called the brake cable.

The engine end of the cable is attached to a plate that is fastened to the engine. The tip of the cable is in a small hole. I've removed the tip from the hole.

There is a plastic section that looks like it just slides into a narrow slot on the plate connected to the engine, but it won't pull out. How is that part of the cable cover removed from that plate?

It's the same on most mowers. I hope you understand what I mean.

Thanks.

ANSWER: Hello Jerry:

I have Several of the 10202 Lawnboy Mowers. I Just Looked and the Brake Cable Shield has 2 Ears that are Pressed Inward and then the Cable is Pulled from the Bracket. Check for these Lock Ears and Press them Inward and Pull the Cable Shield Once you have them Depressed. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/default.cfm?xCaller=LawnBoy and Select Start Parts Viewer. Then Enter the Model Numbers (10202)  and Click Search. Then Select View Assembly Drawings. Then Select the Component you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

QUESTION: I tried regular pliers, needle nose pliers, and vice-grips, but couldn't get the cable off by squeezing the ears. Is there a specific way to do this? Does the cable pull straight out through the slot in the bracket? Does the cable shield need to be twisted into a certain position? Or do I just have to squeeze the ears a bit more?

Thanks. I really appreciate the help.

Answer
Hello Again Jerry:

Wow, that Darn Cable End was Hard to Remove from the Bracket. Sorry for the Delay. I Wanted to Do the Same Repair you are Performing and See if I had the Same Problem. I Just Spent 30 Minutes Removing the Cable from One of My Lawn Boy Mowers. It is a Tight Fit and I Never thought I was Going to Get the Darn Cable Out of the Bracket. Squeeze the Ears More and Pull the cable Straight Out from the Bracket. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
