Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Starved for gas, hose clamps, walbro carb

Question
Hello,
I have a Kohler CV490 17.5 hp.  It has a Walbro Carb.  Fuel will not reliably feed to the carb.  I have changed the fuel filter, checked the hoses, blown out all passages on the carb with carb cleaner. The inlet needle is clean.

When first starting the engine the filter fills with gas, but after a while the engine will die.  I can see that there is no gas in the filter.  I will have to wait for several minutes before enough gas fills the filter and carb bowl.  I have not removed the welsh plug yet.

Should I remove the carb from the engine and soak it in cleaner?
Thank you for any help.

Answer
Hello Steve:

If the Filter is Becoming Empty, then Replace the Spring Style Hose Clamps with the Screw Style Hose Clamps. Usually this is Problem is Caused by; 1- the Hose Clamps Weakening and Allow a air Leak to the Fuel Pump and 2- the Gas Tank Cap Not Venting the Tank Properly. I Suggest you Replace ALL the Hose Clamps on this Engine to the Screw Style Clamps. You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp and Select Enter as Guest. Now Select the Thumbnail of the Engine Catalog you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
