Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Electric PTO Clutch, ohmmeter, original p

Question
Hi John, I see back in the forum awhile back you had a question identical to the problem I am having now. I have a Jacobsen/Homelite riding mover that the PTO burned up in. The original p/n is JA-99037-8 but I can't seem to find that part or a replacement for it. The PTO is bolted to the block with four bolts. I was wondering if you had any luck answering the last guys question and if so could you tell me where I could look. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Harold

Answer
Hello Harold:

For this Problem you will have to Search Sites that Carry Out Dated and No Longer Available Parts. Use the Site Addys Listed at this Site Addy; http://www.yetmans.mb.ca/antiques.html and you can Locate the PTO for this Unit. Have you Checked the PTO Ground Wire and Checked the PTO Itself? The Following is an Instruction File for Checking the PTO. The Most Common Cause for this Problem is the PTO Ground. A Quick Ground Check is to Use Another Wire and Ground the PTO at the Harness Connection Nearest the PTO. Be Careful and Do Not Ground the HOT Wire. Use a Multimeter and Locate the Ground Wire. Clean the PTO Ground and All the Connections for the PTO Wiring Harness. If you have an Ohmmeter, Disconnect the Wiring Harness from the Front of the Clutch and Check the Resistance of the Clutch. You should have around 4 or 5 OHMs. If at or near Zero, the Coil has Shorted. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
