Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Clutch or speed shift lever, clutch linkage, speed shift

Question
I have a John Deere RX95 lawnmower. The speed shift lever doesn't make the mower move fast enough when push up all the way..The mower moves forward & backward just moves at a slow speed also the clutch is hard to push in..Could it be the belt has expanded to much letting the idle wheel pushing in belt enough to be tight and not slip? Cculd this cause the Clutch to be hard to push in?

Answer
Hello Bernard:

From your Description it Sounds like the Belt is Stretched and Requires Replacing or the Clutch Linkage is Binding and Needs to be Repaired. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers (RX95) and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. I Suggest Replacing the Belt First if it has Not been Replaced in a While. Make Sure you Route it Properly and Set the Belt Guides/Guards a 1/4" from the Pulleys/Idlers. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
