Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): honda gc 160 5 hp engine, excell pressure washer, carburetor body

Question
John, I am attempting to repair an Excell Pressure Washer. The engine runs on full choke, but shuts off immediately when I push the choke in. I have disabled and soak the carb, and replaced the fuel pump with genuine honda pump.  The engine ran great before my brother-in-law left fuel in engine all winter. What else should I check?

Answer
Hello Patrick:

Usually Soaking a Carburetor Overnight will Clean All the Varnish from the Internal Passages of the Carburetor Body. Sometimes you May have to Soak the carburetor 2 or 3 Times before the Varnish is Completely Removed, but Usually this is on a Carburetor that has Set for a Few Years with Gas in it. If the Engine is Running with the Choke On, then Soak the Carburetor Again (over night). If the Fuel Pump Vacuum Hose has the Spring Style Clamps, then Replace these with the Screw Style Hose Clamps. The Spring Style Clamps Usually Weaken and Allow the Vacuum Hose to Draw Air and Not Pull a Vacuum on the Fuel Pump. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. Select the Engine File. Now Select you Engine Model from the List Provided. Now you can View Breakdowns of the Engine Components. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
