Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): chainsaws, recoil starters, poulans

Question
QUESTION: hello
these saws w/hi comp.are all poulans/sears,appr.5-10 yrs old. I believe they are 40:1 ratio engs.fyi i've inspected the recoil starters and lubed them & none seem to be in a bind. saws are in the 14-18" size range  thankyou for your patience. Bruce

ANSWER: Hi Again Bruce:

No Worries. I am Glad to Assist you All I can. Ask As Many Questions as you Need to. Thanks for the Information. We Did some Tests in the Shop and Found that if the Carburetor Pulse/Metering Needle is Not Set Correctly, the Engine Draws Enough Gas to Cause a Similar Condition to High Compression. We Used a Poulan 2500 with an 18" Bar and a Poulan/Sears with a 20" Bar and we go the Same Results with Both Saws. The Compression Seemed to be so High that it would Jerk the Starter Handle Out of your Hand. Apparently the Extra Fuel Mix Causes a Better Ring Seal and Creates the High Compression. We are Planning to Do some Other Tests Tomorrow in the AM before the Long Weekend. I Hope to have More Results by Tomorrow Afternoon. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
