QuestionQUESTION: John,
I have a Mantis tiller with an SV-5CI engine. There is also a number on the tiller, 7230-02-02.
I forgot to empty the gas tank over the winter so the oil has separated. When I put in fresh fuel, the tiller would start, run for a few seconds, then die. I took the carburetor apart to make sure it was clean. There were a few spots of hard material. I also replaced the fuel filter in the tank.
Now when I press the primer bulb, it will blow bubbles in the gas tank. When I screw the lid on tight, it builds up pressure and gas eventually comes out of what I think is the valve check for the gas tank. However, no gas comes into the primer bulb.
Could I have put something together wrong? Or are there other places to check what is plugging things up?
Thanks,
Rob
ANSWER: Hello Rob:
For this Question I Require the OEM (Walbro, Zama, ect) and the Model Numbers Off the Carburetor. With these I can Locate a Breakdown of the Carburetor and Better Assist you. However, if this is the Carburetor that has 2 Fuel Line Going to it, then Switch the Fuel Lines and Try Again. It Sounds like the Check Valve for the Primer is Stuck. Thanks.

QUESTION: John,
It is a Zama. The numbers I found on the carburetor are K54A 33A. The carburetor does have two hoses going to it. I can't switch the hoses because the one on the top is too short to switch to the bottom. There is a third little hose that comes out of the gas tank which goes to the check valve.
I took everything apart again, made sure things were clean and reassembled. It still won't start.
Thanks,
Rob
Thanks,
Rob

This Zama has 2 Check Valves and One is Stuck. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Carburetor and Get Technical Information on Zama Carburetors at this Site Addy; http://www.zamacarb.com/tips.html and Select the Technical Guide. This will have the Breakdowns and Other Information Required to Clean this Carburetor. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
