Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Small engine interchange, troy built tiller, hp honda

Question
Mr Bridgers, I have a Troy Built tiller with a Tecumseh engine that is very weak.  I would like to replace it, possibly with a new Honda, the engine model # is HS40 55580N C.  I have looked for an interchangability chart with no success.  Can you tell me if I can get a direct interchange, possibly a 6 or 6.5 HP Honda replacement?

Answer
Hello Bill:

Without Research you Can Not Get an Engine to Interchange with the Tecumseh Engine. I Suggest you Take the Measurements of the Mounting Holes and Crankshaft Length and Diameter and Go to your Local Small Engine Service Center or Lowes, ect. Look at the Engines and Use your Measurement to Locate an Engine that Matches the Specifications you have. Usually if these Match the Engine you are Wishing to Replace, then you can Use the Engine for a Replacement. You May have to Change the Throttle Cable (Use a Longer/Shorter Cable) on Some Engine Changes Due to the Location of the Throttle Control Bracket. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
