Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Electrical system, maximum engine performance, crank shaft

Question
Hello John,
I have a kohler command 13 engine (model CV13S
Spec no. 21509) that had the connecting rod and crank shaft go out.  I recently bought a Kohler command 16 (model CV16S Spec no. 43530) being told that the two engines should be interchangeable.  I then found out that the CV16S has 2 extra electrical items, a fuel shut-off solenoid and a Smart spark system.  My question is, can I put my old CV13S electrical system on the CV16S engine. If you can help it would be Greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jacob

Answer
Hello Jacob:

I Looked at Both Engines and See No Difference in the Components you are Wanting to Interchange. The Smart Spark System is a Digital Spark Advance and May Not have to be Connected for the Engine to Operate Properly. The Carburetor Solenoid can be Wired to the Ign Switch so it has Current Only when the Ign Switch is in the Start or Run Position. There Should be No Current when the Ign Switch is in the Off Position. This Smart Spark System is Supposed to Give Maximum Engine Performance and Fuel Comsumption. I Think it is a Money Gemmic Myself. You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.kohlerplus.com/login.asp and Select Enter as Guest. Now Select the Thumbnail of the Catalog you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
