Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine will not shut off, briggs and stratton, ride on mowers

Question
i have been working on my 1996 poulan tractor (14.5 Briggs and Stratton engine) when it would not shut off. I was riding around when I parked it and turned the key to shut it off and it kept running. The only way I have been able to shut it off is to choke it off. Is there anything you can suggest to me on on why it won't shut off?  Could it be anything but the ignition switch?

Answer
Hello Alex:

Remove the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) and Check the Shut Off Wire Connection at the Ign Module/Coil. The Ign Module/Coil Does Not Use a Hot Wire. It is Grounded to Stop the Ign Module/Coil from Firing the Plug. On Some Ride on Mowers, the Shut Off Wire Goes from the Ign Switch Straight to the Ign Module/Coil and on Other the Shut Off Wire Goes to the Throttle Control Bracket and then to the Ign Module/Coil. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
