Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 25hp b&s engine, exhast, valve clearance

Question
I read what you told Mike about the valve settings on his B & S engine, cause I had the same question and mine are set a .004 on intake & .oo8 on exhast, but I still get a poping sound coming from the carb. Thanks for any advice.Model 446777 Type 0219 E1 code 040115yg

Answer
Hello Duane:

Try Using a .005in or .006in Clearance for the Intake Valve Clearance. Sometimes the .004in is Not Really Enough and the Clearance on the Intake Needs to be a Litle Wider than Suggested by the OEM. Thats the Reason I Use the .005in and .008in Instead of the .004in and .006in as Called for on Most Engines. I Even Use a Clearance of .005in on the Engines that Call for .004in Clearance on Both Valves. If After Setting the Intake at .006in and you Still have a Popping through the Intake, than Check the Valve Seats. The Valve May Need to be Lapped in and Re-Seated. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
