Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): No spark, spec numbers, honda engine

Question
I have a 20hp V twin Honda engine with an intermittent problem of not starting. There is no spark. I checked the wire (black/red) from the ignition switch to the engine stop diode and coils and it has 1.5-2.0 volts. I am assuming that this should be around 12V and that my ignition switch is bad. I didn't want to put 12v into the wire if this is wrong since I am sure it would fry the diodes. Question - should there be 12v coming from the switch to the coils?

Thanks, Peter

Answer
Hello Peter:

There is NO Voltage on the Shut Off Wire from the Ign Module/Coil. The Ign Module is Simply Grounded through the Switch. It Sounds like the Ign Module is Bad. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
