Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): overheating on little wonder leaf blower, little wonder leaf blower, hp briggs

Question
I don't have the model number handy, but I have a general question. My 10 hp Briggs OHV little wonder blower has been a problem since new 2004. Three times the cylinder head exhaust valve guide has moved in the cylinder head assembly. I have just heard that this is a problem in this particular application. It has to do with the fan constuction and overspeeding. Have you heard of this at all?

Answer
Hello Skip:

I have Not Heard of the Valve Guides Moving. I have Seen a Common Problem with the Valve Adjustment on ALL the OHV Engines. I have Spoken with Briggs, Tecumseh and Kohler (on Kohler Engines the Rocker Arms Loosen and the Push Tubes Jump Off) about the Valve Problem and have been Told Many Times that there is No Valve Adjustment Problem. They Tell me it is the Valves Seating in and Adjusting the Valves is Routine Maintenance. I have Started Using Blue Thread Lock on the Valve Adjuster Lock Nut and am Not Seeing the Valve Adjustment Problem Once this is Done. Before I was Seeing the Valve Adjustment Problem on the Same Engine Every 12 to 18 Months. On my Company Equipment, I was Seeing this Problem Every 2 to 3 Months. Now they are Used the Whole Season without this Problem. Thanks for Bringing this to my Attention. I will Investigate this and Follow up to you on Monday 3/31/08 with my Findings. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
