Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Replacing head gasket and oil seal, replacing head gasket, briggs stratton

Question
I have a Briggs & Stratton 6.75hp 123k02-o236 engine on my pressure washer and while replacing my pump I noticed oil leaking around the shaft. I removed pan and the seal around the shaft is bad. How do you remove the old seal. I removed what I could but there is still some rubber there!!

Answer
The main oil seal can be drove out using a large wooden dowel rod or a large socket.  There should be very little rubber left once the seal is removed.

Are you sure you removed the entire seal?  The outer wall of the seal should be stiff and strong.  Did you possibly just remove the inner part of the seal?  Seal part number 399781S.

Let me know.
