Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): snow blower s engine, briggs stratton, 6 digits

Question
Hi , I have a snow blower , second hand ,(1986 +/-),while using it it was making a new sound ,sort of pinging , so I turned it off , tcheck the oil , level OK , started it again with electric starter , starter had a hard time turning over engine , made black smoke , like when there is a mixture too rich , ran for 2-3 minutes then stalled , now the engine will not turn . Briggs & Stratton ,10 HP ,model ,type and code as follow , 222413 , 0720 01 , 860 82 711 , pulling the cord from the pull starter is impossible,is it possible the piston is stuck ? do these engine sometimes get fixed by putting in a sleeve and new piston ? should I forget about this machine ( Yard-Man 10-28 ) and get a new one?  Thank you in advance for any answer.

Answer
Hello Michael:

How Does the Engine Turn with the Spark Plug Out? Was there Gas in the Oil? If the Cylinder or Piston is Gouged or Deeply Scratched, then a New Short Block or Engine May be Required. A Short Block or New Engine is Cheaper than Reworking the Old Block. I have Been that Route. Never Again. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model (5 or 6 Digits) and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only). Example: 222413-0720. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
