Question
BEN,
MY DAUGHTERS GO CART QUIT WHILE SHE WAS RIDING IT.  I DET. THE PROBLEM TO BE THE BALL BEARINGS UNDER THE ROUND PLASTIC COVER HELD ON BY 2 SM. BOLTS WERE INTERFERING WITH THE PULL START MECH.  IT MADE A TERRIBLE NOISE AS THE PULL CORD UNWOUND AND WHEN I PULLED THE SIDE COVER OFF TO WIND THE CORD BACK THERE WAS SOME BURNT PLASTIC FROM THE TAKE UP SPOOL.  AFTER I PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER IT WON'T START.  I CLEANED THE FLYWHEEL WITH SOME SCOTCH BRITE AND MADE SUE IT HAD FUEL AND OIL.  IT DOES.  I PULLED THE PLUG AND HELD IT AGAINST THE HEAD AND IT HAS GOOD SPARK. IT BACKFIRED THROUGH THE MUFFLER ONCE AND NOW AFTER A FEW PULLS IT SPITS UP THROUGH THE CARB.  ANY HELP WILL BE APPREC. AS HER SPRING BREAK IS ALMOST OVER.  IT IS GETTING FUEL AND THE COMPRESSION SEEMS GOOD.  IT HAD RUN GREAT WHEN IT STOPPED.  THANKS  JAMES B.

Answer
Hello James:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool. The Component you that has the Ball Bearings is the Starter Clutch. Sometimes when the Starter Clutch Seizes, it will Cause Damage to the Flywheel Key and this Damage Causes the Plug to Fire Out of Time with the Piston During the Compression/Power Stroke. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File # 9. Then Select the Folder # 91200. Did you Replace the Recoil Spool? Usually the Spool/Pulley has to be Replaced for the Recoil Starter to Operate Correctly. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck

John
