Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 38 John Deere Snowthrower for LX173 lawn tractor, john deere snowthrower, sectional index

Question
S/N 0100010-*...
I stupidly got a piece of wood stuck in the center scoop portion of the auger.  I need to release tension on the auger or better - be able to reverse the auger.  On page 34 of the operators manual, it shows taking the side cover off to adjust the chain deflection on the chain between the sprockets.  Not sure if I would work there or somewhere else (ie, countershaft?).  Can the auger even be reversed by hand? If not, how do I eliminate the tension on the auger?  Do not want to lose a hand or arm.  Thanks much, Jeff.

Answer
Hello Jeff:

To Reverse the Auger/Rotor, Simply Remove the Chain from the Auger/Rotor Sprocket. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select the Attachments File. Then Select Snow Thrower File. Then Select the Sectional Index. Then Select STX, LX, GT and 100 Series Lawn Tractors File. Then Select the Auger File. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
