Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): McCullough chainsaw, mccullough chainsaw, clutch assembly

Question
Dear sir,

Regarding my 20 year old McCullough Eager Beaver 3.7 c.i. chainsaw, 20" bar:

The saw has never given me problems, until now.  What's happening is the chain is not turning when the saw is running now.  Prior to the problem, I cleaned it up real well, including degreasing in the clutch (?) assembly.  It ran and cut well for 1/2 the day, then the chain simply quit turning with any kind of load on it.  Did I degrease too much, to the point that the centrifigal clutch components won't function?

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Answer
Hello Bob:

Remove the Bar and Chain. Check the Clutch Assembly. Usually the Problem you Described is Due to Bad Clutch Pawls (shoes) or a Bad Clutch Bell/Drum. I Suggest you Replace the Clutch Bell/Drum and the Clutch Assembly (shoes and Spring) Since this is an Older Saw. I am Sure the Clutch Assembly and Bell/Drum are Worn. You can View a Breakdown of the Equipment at this Site Addy; http://www.emerichsales.com/ and Select Parts at the Top of the Page. Follow the Instructions for OEM Parts Diagram Look Up by Model Fit. Once you are at the Equipment Page; Select the Section you Wish to View from the Change Assembly Box at the Upper Right of the Page.  If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
