Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD Snow blower, shifting gears, snow blower

Question
I have an old 8hp Tecumsah MTD snowblower. It runs great but I just noticed today that I am getting more resistance when shifting the gears. Not sure what would cause this.

When you say shifting gears, you mean from going low to high? Usually this means the shifter forks need lubricated from sitting in the off spring. I would check the linkage and the shifting housing. One note of advise when the snow is gone for the season spray wd 40 on the gears linkage, and any where else you see rust developing, also grease the fitting if you have them.
