Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh starting problem, ariens snowblower, crankcase oil

Question
Hi John,
My old Ariens snowblower won't turn over. The info I have in front of me for the Tecumseh engine says it's for models H50, H60 and H70 Snow King. If you need more than that, I can probably find it. Anyway, when the rope wouldn't budge I thought the problem was a jam in the starter mechanism, but when I removed the starter, the rope pulled out of it and retracted without a problem. Seems like I could have a more serious problem down inside.

Answer
Hello Dan:

Have you Removed the Spark Plug and Checked for Gas in the Cylinder? The Gas will Hydrolock the Engine if Filled with Gas. Is the Crankcase Oil at the Proper Level or is it Overfilled? When the Engine was Last Run; How did it Run? Did Anything Unusal Happen During the Last Engine Operation? You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers. Then Select your Model and Download the File for Online Viewing. Thanks?
