Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): timing on a 4.5hp briggs, briggs stratton, cam gear

Question
I have a 4.5hp Briggs & Stratton that I need to time. If you know how I can do that please help or know of where to find out to do so. It doesn't have any model # anywhere that I can find. Thank you, Jamie

Answer
Jamie

No model numbers I cant help you as each engine is set different depending on the application
But here is a general idea to help find correct timing

Look at the Teeth of the Cam Gear. You will See a Dip in the Ring Between the Teeth. That Dip is the Timing Mark. It Lines Up with the Mark on the Crankshaft Tooth. There should be a Small Hole Directly Behind the Dip Also. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please

Also You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View.
