Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stihl string trimmer/walbro, stihl string trimmer, walbro carb

Question
QUESTION: John.... I cleaned the carburetor on my string trimmer and I may have switched the low-high adj. screws. I believe the low speed needle/screw has a longer unthreaded portion behind the needle tip. Correct? Thanks, Bill tate, 65, retired in Western NC from Tate's Auto Service.

ANSWER: Hello Bill:

You are Correct. On Most Carnuretor that have the Long Needl Air Adjustment, it is Usually Located in the Idle Air Adjustment Port of the Carburetor. I Require the Model Numbers Off the Carburetor. With these I can Locate a Breakdown of the Carburetor and Better Assist you. Thanks.

QUESTION: John...The Walbro carb number is wt 492. The idle needle is about 1/8 inch longer than the high speed so I guess I have it right. This Stihl runs fine but should rev a little higher(I think) and the high speed neddle has little effect. I would like to ask two quick questions. I have an old 8 hp vertical briggs that oil is getting on the points. Any cure other than going to the solid-state conversion? This Briggs is on a old Snapper rear engine (about 1980, tank on bracket on left side). How do I service/grease this transaxle? 90 weight? Thanks Bill

Answer
Hello Again Bill:

1- How Does the Saw Operate Under a Load? If it is Cutting Properly, then Do Not Worry about the No Load Speed. 2- Replace the Point Set Plunger. If you Have Already Replaced the Plunger, then a Solid State Ign Module is Required. You can Leave the Point Set Under the Flywheel by Simply Cutting the Wires and Making Sure they Will Not Interfear with the Flywheel. I Usually Suggest the Rotary Corps Nova ll (#8786)Soild State Ign Module. Your Local Small Engine Service Center can Usually Ordfer this for you if they Do Not Stock it. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
