Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): briggs and stratton 28q777 vibration, briggs and stratton, electric clutch

Question
Hi There from down under. I am in need of your expertise. I have a Cox Ride On with a 16 hp Vanguard engine Model 28Q777 Type 0694E1 Code 011128ZE. I have a serious vibration issue when I start to increase the revs of the engine. I removed the electric clutch and the pulley for the Hydrostatic drive to eliminate them but the vibration remains. I removed the engine and got the crankshaft out and took it to a crankshaft specialist who confirmed it is straight and true. I note in some models of this engine there is a counter balance system to alleviate vibration issues, but there is no such part in my engine. I am begining to suspect the flywheel or harmonic balancer if you like but I can see no evidence of any damage to this part. The Mower goes well and there is no smoke and plenty of power. Any suggestions?

Bill

Answer
Hello Willian:

Did you have the Crankshaft Checked for Balance. In an Engine that Do Not Use the Counter Balance Throw Weight, the Crankshaft is Balanced to Prevent the Vibration. It is Rare, but Sometimes a Magnet will Fall Off the Flywheel and Cause the Imbalance. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model (5 or 6 Digits) and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only). Example: 28Q777-0694. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
