Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Bolens Snowthrower Gearbox problem, shear pins, drive wheels

Question
QUESTION: John,
I recently acquired an old Bolens Artic 75 model 75-02 snow thrower from the 60's or 70's.  & horse 24 inch model.  I have adjusted everything, changed oil, rebuilt carb, etc. and it was going like a champ! Tonight the augers quit spinning.  The shaft spins going into the gear box and the drive wheels go fine; something came apart in the gear box.  Do you know how much of the unit will have to be disassembled to find what failed or the order of disassembly?  I do have an exploded parts diagram but it really doesn't tell you what order to remove  to get at the gearbox.  I see now someone had put regular bolts in for shear pins but I didn't hit anything solid, just was moving a LOT of snow!  Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike

ANSWER: Hello Mike:

Send me the Model Numbers Off the Unit, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Model Numbers Should Look Similar to this Example; 31A-040-163. Thanks.

QUESTION: 75-02 is the actual model number.  The engine serial number indicates the machine was produced in 1961 or 1971 but thats as close as I can narrow it down.  You can find a parts breakdown at www.samsbolens.com in the illustrations area, Artic 75.  Thanks,

Answer
Hello Again Mike:

From Looking at Figure (Breakdown) #3 at the Sams Bolens Site; It Looks like the Complete Auger Assembly has to be Removed from the Housing. If you are Lucky you May have a Roll Pin Sheared Inside the Gearbox. If Not, then the Pinion or Ring Gear May be Damaged. I Do Not have a File Ready with Step by Step Instructions for this Unit. I will Work on the Instructions and try to have an Instructon File for this Unit Ready by Tomorrow. I will Follow Up with you then. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
