Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler engine oil filters, rotary corp, oem filters

Question
John,

I have a Troy Bilt tractor mower and it's easy to change the oil but was wondering if I could use just a "car" oil filter then the Kohler Courage® engine oil filters that are more expensive.  They look the same, and a car is 1/3 the price.  Is this okay and do you know what size/brand car filter for a Kohler Courage® engine 18hp engine?

Thanks

Answer
Hello Brian:

The Small Engine Oil Filters are Designed for a Lower Oil Pressure. My Local Advance and Auto Works Both Offer Oil Filters for Small Engines at a Lower Price than Purchasing an OEM Filters.  Rotary Corp Offers an Oil Filter (Rotary # 10888)(http://www.rotarycorp.com/CGI-BIN/LANSAWEB?PROCFUN+WEBAPPLC+HOMPAGE+CED) at a Reasonable Price. I Usually Purchase my Filters by the Case. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
