Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 158cc push mower, shaft move, throttle control

Question
Hi John,

I have a relatively new (less than a year old) B&S motor on my mower. I noticed when I got it that it just wouldn't get enough revs to fill the catcher. The engine idles and runs fine, just not with enough revs. Is there a simple way that I can tune it? I have checked the throttle, when I move the lever by hand it still wont rev faster, which is why I think it may be something to do with tuning. The air filter is clean, carby is (I guess)unlikely to be dirty as it has done less than 20 hours running so far..... Any advice or assisstance would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks
Paul

Answer
Hello Paul:

Look at the Throttle Control Bracket. When the Cable is Moved it Pulls a Spring that Pulls the Governor Arm that Pulls the Throttle Control Valve Thru Shaft. Move the Spring so it Pulls Slightly Harder on the Governor Control Arm. On Some Models the Spring is Attached to a Tab that can be Bent to Tighten (Increase) or Loosen (Decrease) the Engines Full Throttle RPMS. If you Adjust the RPMs; Remember Not to Increase the RPMs Too Much. 3800 to 4200 is the Most Suggested on Any Small Mower Engine. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
