Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Chainsaw, craftsman chainsaw, chain saws

Question
I have a Craftsman chainsaw purchased at Sears (358.352320) 2.3, with a 16" blade.  Saw works great, however plastic part of starting mechanism that engages flywheel is broken.  I was told they do not make this part anymore.  Any suggestions before buying a new saw?

Answer
Dear Mary A,

Personally I would check with a small engine shop before shopping for a new saw.  Many times shops will keep some used chain-saws hanging around for spare parts, like the one you've described.  It's in the interest of consumerism that [Sears] doesn't supply or make parts a few years after they start selling your saw. Possibly check a bargain hunter or buy and sell magazine for an old chainsaw and rip the parts of it.

Good Luck with that,
Howard
