Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs v-twin ignition, jumper wire, twin ignition

Question
QUESTION: 14 hp v-twin, how are the coil kill wires connected?  As soon as both coil terminals are the same potential(spliced together to the shutoff lug)they stop working. Nothing grounded at all, JUST the wires from the coil together.

ANSWER: Hello Dave:

A Coil has 2 Grounding Wires. 1 is Grounded to Allow the Coil to Function. When Both Ground Wires of the Coil are Grounded the Coil will Not Function. Use a Single Wire and Jumper from One Coil Shut Off Lug to the Other (leave the ShutOff Switch out of the Circuit) to the Other. Does the Coils Still Fire? If Yes, then Connect the Shut Off Wire to the Jumper between the 2 Coils. Does the Coils Fire? If No, then the Shut Off Switch or the Shut Off Wire is Grounded/Bad and Requires Replacing. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: With no wire at all on shutoff lugs, engine runs fine, either coil grounded singularly will shutoff that cylinder, when the shutoff lugs are shorted together with nothing else in the circuit and not grounded, the coils are inop.
Putting a jumper wire betqween the lugs makes them inop.

Answer
Hello Again Dave:

Try this and Let me Know the Outcome, Please. Run a Seperate Cut Off Wire and Switch for Each Coil. From your Description, it Sounds like One of the Coils is Using the Other to Ground. If this is the Case, then One of the Coils is Bad and Creating the Grounding Problem. It is Rare for this to Happen, but it Does. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
