Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): starting it up, mtd riding lawn mower, key switch

Question
i put a new battery in my mtd riding lawn mower it would not start so i changed the starter b/c it was bad i hooked every thing up ,but it wont even click....whats wrong with it.

Answer
Most likely there is an safety switch problem.  Do you have a multimeter?  If so, locate the solenoid by following the large battery cable from the battery to the solenoid.  On the solenoid there will be at least one small wire.  With the blades dis-engaged, clutch pushed in, mower in neurtal and sitting on the seat, you should find about 12 volts DC on the small wire when you turn the key to the start position.  If you have no voltage, check the main fuse and ensure the key switch is plugged in.

If those are fine, start tracing the wires from the key switch to each safety switch and ensure the connections are tight.
Let me know what you find.
