Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine problems, size hole, snow blower

toro snow blower 5 horsepower with is 24 and the model number is 31625 502081.tecumseh engine model number is hs50 67074 41588.i rebuild the carburetor.i have three places where i can make adjustments.one is the main jet on the bottom of the carb.one on the side of the carb and the other one is for the throttle stop.if you were to tune up this carburetor,which one will you start with?i can start the engine up and also put it into gear with first and reverse,it runs good,but as soon as i turn the auger on it stalls.
my muffler has a hole into it,a nice size hole.does this affect the way the engine runs and does it affect the way you tune up the carburetor?

The hole in the muffler will cause the carb to become richer that will affect the high speed that is why it stalls when the load is put on it. To adjust the carb you would need to start the engine with no load and adjust the low idle first the after that is stabilized you can do the high speed move the throttle all the way up and adjust the carb until the engine starts to stall and then turn it back  1/2 to 1 turn until it starts to run smoothe.Then you can put a load on it if it starts to stall adjust the high speed only till it will not stall.
