Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): snapper 1030 frozen auger, viscosity oil, shear pins

Question
my quetsions are what viscosity oil goes into the auger gear box the manual recommends what ever you use in the crankcase somebody told me to use 80-90 what would be correct?? Also recomended to remove the shear pins and grease augers. After greasing the augers recommend spinning augers on the shaft to move the grease but not
able to spin the left side frozen to the shaft. I have been advised not to heat up the auger with torch what can i do to free this up??

Answer
Hello Sal:

You can Use Heat; Just Do Not Turn the Metal RED. Try Using PB Rust Catalyst (allow to Set a Couple of Hours)  and then Tap the Auger where it Connects to the Shaft as you Try to Turn and Pull the Auger Off the Shaft. You Only Need to Heat the Connection Enough for the Outer Metal to Expand Away from the Inner Shaft. The Correct Gear Oil is SAE 30 Engine Oil. I Use Synthetic Oil. The Synthetic Oils Reduce Wear more then Conventional Oils. You can View a Breakdown/IPL at this Site Addy, http://www.emerichsales.com/parts-browse.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. Now Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Snapper). Then Enter the Model Numbers. Now Double Click on your Model. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please.
