Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): snowblower surging, hey jay, gear assembly

Question
I have a murry blizzard with a 10hp tecumush engine problem is it surges bad when idling when under load it works fine

Answer
Hey Jay,

'Hunting' [R.P.M.'s surging up & down] is a sign that the engine is having trouble maintaining constant R.P.M. with or without engine load.   The engine surging needs to be corrected before affecting the engine with serious engine damage.
1. When engine is running quicker than normal shut off the engine.
2.  Determine the condition of the external governor shaft, linkage, governor spring,  speed control assembly for breakage, stretching or binding. Adjust or replace binding or parts that are damaged.
3. Find the Governor adjustment procedure and follow instructions.
4.  Run the engine.  If an overspeed condition continues, shut the engine down.  Possibly the governor gear assembly needs to be checked for damage, binding or wear [the engine will require some disassembly in order to do this].
If you do not have a tecumseh manual, I would suggest going to the Tecumseh website [http://www.tecumsehpower.com] look at some of the information there.

I hope you find this useful to fixing your engine difficulties.
