Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): No rpm reading, v twin, model numbers

Question
Hi! John,  I have a 99 JD 345 mower with 800 hours, a 20hp Liquid cooled ohv V-twin Kawasaki, FD611V,   I have a loss of power,  I've changed the spark plugs and full tune up. I've talked to some dealer reps and they have said that they haven't seen this problem,  Here's the deal.  I put an rmp gauge on the plug wire on the driver side and rpm reads 1300-3600 (ideal to wide open) Then i hook the guage on the other side and the reading started out at 1300 (idol) and as i increased the throttle the rmp guage reads blank and or flashes with out a reading,  I switched the coil packs from one side to the other and still have the same findings on the same side.  I have 180 compression on both sides, spark on both plugs,  when pulling one plug wire off at a time the engine will run on one cylinder. Any help would be great.  I'm thinking it's about time for a trade.

Answer
Hello Brian:

From your Description, it Sounds like the Ignitor is Going Bad. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
