Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Spirit Snow Blowers, sears craftsman, briggs stratton

Question
I need to replace a drive gear in snow blower I just got. My question is: Who makes "Spirit" snow blowers and where can I get parts??  It has the model as - "Spirit SM 825" (probably the 8hp Tech. and the 25" input. Also, there was a sticker that had Ontairo, Canada on it.

Thanks!

Joe

Answer
Dear Joe,

I am unfamiliar with the 'Spirit' brand of snowblower.  The most pertinent information [for doing the job you want to do]
can be found stamped in metal, or on a decal stuck on the side of the engine.
It will give you engine model no. and serial no.  Sometimes you need to remove the 'cover bezel' before you can find this info.

Using these engine identification no.'s will assist you to get the necessary parts for replacing the drive gear.

An example would be HS50 67355H SER 4091D. This would indicate a Tecumseh engine, [HS =Horizontal Small Frame] I would also know from this no. that the machine is likely to be a Sears Craftsman.

The other large small engine maker is Briggs & Stratton. Their phone no.
is 1-800-233-3723.  Other manufacturers of small engines are Honda & Suzuki.
