Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh Engine -Ariens Snowblower, rubber tip, needle valve

Question
When attempting to start up the blower gas came out from the pre-starting primer. This never occurred previously. What may be the cause and how can it be remedies? In addition, While starting it,I also noticed gas leaking from the top of the carburetor(2 years sitting without operating but had an overhaul of the carb by a licensed small engine op.) Should I replace the gasket?
Thank you

Answer
Hello Robert:

Take the Carburetor Back and have it Repaired Again. You can Tell them that the Carburetor Float Needle Valve is Sticking and Allowing the Carburetor to Flood the Engine. If this Carburetor was Properly Cleaned and Rebuilt, this should Not be Occurring. However, Remember that I have had the Same Thing Happen to my Customers and it May Not be the Service Centers Fault. Sometimes there May be a Burr on the Float Needle that was Overlooked by the Mechanic and this Causes the Needle to Stick Open. I have Also had Float Needle Kit that were Bad Straight Out of the Box. Either the Seat was Molded Improperly (2 pc needle and seat)or the Needle has a Bad Tip (single pc needle with a rubber tip. this type uses no seat. the carburetor housing is the seat for this style float needle). They Should Warranty their Work. Since this is a Tecumseh Engine, I have a PDF Site Addy that May Assist you Also. http://www.tecumsehpower.com/CustomerService/BSI.pdf If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
