QuestionQUESTION: Dear Sir,
I've been wondering about the lack of an air cleaner on Tecumseh engines used for snowblowers. That seems to be the practice. I know that there is very good reason to always have an air cleaner on any engine. What's your take on this? I am using a Craftsman Snowblower (Murray) that has a Tecumseh engine. Thank you kindly.

I Do Not get Many Snow Throwers to Work on Around here. Maybe 10 to 20 a Season. However, I have Not Seen a Snow Thrower that Does Not have an Air Filter on the Carburetor. I have 2 Different Makes and Model of Snow Throwers Myself and Both have Air Filters. Dust and Other Particles in the Air Cause Damage to the Cylinder Walls, Rings and Piston without an Air Filter. I Never Suggest Using Any Small Engine Without an Air Filter System. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. QUESTION: Dear John,
The engine spec's are below. If you go to the sears Parts site and search the engine model # you can ask for the diagram of the engine. It will demonstrate that there is no air cleaner! I have an old 5 hp tecumseh engine on a homemade log splitter. It has no air cleaner either! Thank you kindly for all your assistance, and for the Blessing of the Almighty. My Machines have a Square Type Filter and Cover. I Looked at your Engines Breakdown and Noticed it has a Cover ONLY. The Tecumseh Sales Rep will be by the Shop this Week and I will Ask About this. The Tecumseh Rep Showed Up the Same Day my Vacation Started. Sorry for the Delay. The Rep Explained that the Snow Blowers were Operated in Weather that had Low Dust and Other Air Contaminates in the Air and the Carburetor Required Warm Air from the Engine Block to Keep the Carburetor Throat from Icing and Causing Running Problems.
