Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Atlas snowthrower, snowthrower, hp engine

Question
I have an Atlas snowthrower model #n420 It is very old and I have looked for an engine model number and can't find it. I need to replace the coil but I can't find the part without the model number of the engine(the engine is a B&S 4hp, 3600rpm, 4cycle,"easy spine") could you please help me,it is getting ready to snow!!!!!

Answer
Hello Robert:

Look on the Blower Housing, Directly Above the Spark Plug. The Model Numbers are STAMPED Into the Blower Housing. You May Need to Scrape the Paint or Rust Off to See The Model and Type Numbers. Also; If this Engine is Old, then the Point Set is Bad and Not the Coil. I have Never Seen the Older Engine have a Bad Coil. The Newer Engine Have the Coil Replaced Because the Ign Module is a Part of the Coil and the Ign Module is Actually what Goes Bad. Being a 4 HP Engine, then Point Set is Located Under the Flywheel. A Small Lead Off the Coil will go Under the Flywheel to the Point Set. The Cut Off Wire Also Connects to the Point Set Condensor. If this Engine has the Point Set, I Suggest you Purchase a Rotary Nova 11 Soild State Ign Module to Replace the Point Set. With the Nova 11 you Do Not have to Remove the Flywheel to Get the Engine to Fire the Plug Again. Just Cut the Wires from the Coil and Shut Off Switch where they Go Under the Flywheel and Connect them as Instructed in the Directions that are Included with the Nova Unit. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
