Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Billy Goat 10 HP Blower, blown head gasket, carburetor body

Question
Hello again John.  You helped me resolve the problem with my Poulan Pro backpack blower earlier today.  Here's my other problem.

I have a 1 year old Billy Goat 10 HP (Model QB1004) walk behind blower.  After sitting since last winter, couldn't get it started last month.  Took it to small engine repair and they cleaned carb, resolving problem.  Now, only a few operating hours later, it only will run at half choke.  If I open choke further it immediately begins to run roughly and lower RPMs.  Suppose I could return it to the shop but would prefer to know how to fix it myself.

Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi Again Paul:

Welcome Back. If you are Having to Use the Choke to get the Engine to Run Correctly, then it can be the Carburetor Needs to be Cleaned Again or a Blown Head Gasket. I Suggest you  Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I Use Gunk). I have Found that Most People can Use a Breakdown/IPL and Disassemble the Carburetor Enough for Proper Cleaning. You Only have to Remove the Bowl, Float Pin, Float (if Applicable)  and Needle Valve and Any Adjustment Screws that Go Into the Carburetor Body. The Welch Plugs Do Not have to be Removed. Then Soak the Carburetor Body and Parts in a 1 Gallon Can of Gunk Carburetor Cleaner Overnight. The Can has a Parts Tray Inside it for the Small Parts. Once the Carburetor and Parts are in the Cleaner, you can Replace the Lid for Safety and to Prevent Accidental Spillage. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Parts if Required. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. The Breakdown will Assist you in the Disassembly and Reassembly of the Carburetor. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
