Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy-Bilt Pony drive belt adjustment, pony drive, drive pulley

Question
How do I adjust the drive belt on a Troy-Bilt Pony riding mower.  Model #13AN779G766  The mower surges when in gear and the service center told me that this was because the drive pulley needs adjustment.

Answer
Hello Steve:

Go to this Site Addy, http://www.jackssmallengines.net/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab and Enter the OEM (Troy Bilt)and the Model Numbers (13AN779G766). Now Double Click on your Model in the Results Area. Select the Drive Folder. The Belt Tension and Clutch Operation is Provided by the Springs (#21 and 23). The Clutch Adjuster (#8) is Located on the End of the Clutch Rod (#26). Is the Surging Occurring at a Regular Interval? If Yes, then a Tooth in the Transaxle May be Broken. Usually the Clutch is Adjusted to Release the Belt Not Tighten. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
